Wrapping Paper Wall Art

Welcome to part 3 of Spring Decorating on a Budget!

Decorating definitely does not have to be expensive.  We've been in our home for less than a year, so I still have a lot of decorating to do! Instead of spending a huge amount of money, I came up with some ideas to add to my decor without spending a ton!

In my last post from this series (part 2), I used damask print wrapping paper to re-do an old picture and make it useable again! You can view that post HERE.

In this segment, I'm using more of my wrapping paper! Instead of using it on old pictures, this time I picked up a few wooden wall plaques from the dollar store.

I placed a plaque on the wrapping paper so that I could trace around the plaque. Wrapping paper side up and plaque side down. I did wrapping paper side up so that I could center the plaque with the design of the damask.
Notice in the above pic that the top corners of the plaque are both lined up with the tiny flowers. That way, the portion of the damask print that I cut out for the plaque will not be off-center.  If you pick a wrapping paper that's not quite so complex of a design or pattern, this part will be slightly easier!

I traced around the edges of the plaque in pencil, and then cut out the paper.
Then I took my materials outside with my Krylon spray adhesive.

It's tricky to apply the wrapping paper and even it up exactly to the edges of the plaque, due to the paper trying to roll up.  But I just started with the bottom end, got that lined up, and pushed the paper down onto the plaque, working my way up.

Smooth down any bubbles or creases as you lay it down. With the adhesive spray I'm using, I was actually able to peel the wrapping paper back off when it wasn't completely lined up on the edges. Then I straightened it out, and laid it back down.

But, I haven't quite decided how I'm going to display these! Either separately in different places...

Or together...

I have one long wall that I need to do something with, so I even thought of doing a third one and using them in a row on that long wall. It's still up for debate!

Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

Tutorial: Wrapping Paper Wall Art

Welcome to part 2 of Spring Decorating on a Budget!

Decorating definitely does not have to be expensive.  We've been in our home for less than a year, so I still have a lot of decorating to do! Instead of spending a huge amount of money, I came up with some ideas to add to my decor without spending a ton!

I have an older picture that is not used anymore, and it's been sitting in the closet.  I kept trying to think of what to do with it to re-use it.

I thought about painting over it with a cute patterned stencil, but I just couldn't decide!

I've seen some various projects that use wrapping paper for other things than wrapping presents, so I thought about using that on the picture.  I've seen some pretty patterns of wrapping paper, so I headed out to see what I could find! Michael's had a pretty black and white damask roll for $3.99.  Normally I would never buy such a small roll of wrapping paper for $4, but since it's not for wrapping Christmas presents, I can be more sparing with it!

 My materials:
Old picture no longer being used
Roll of wrapping paper
Krylon Easy-Tack Repositional Adhesive (spray adhesive)
Wooden letter "G"
Command Damage-Free Hanging strips
Apple Barrel acrylic paint (color: Cloudless--my color this Spring!)
paintbrush

Here's my picture and my wrapping paper:
This wall picture may look familiar, it was a Kirkland's find! But I am no longer using red in my decor, so it's been sitting for awhile.

Time for a make-over!

First I laid the wrapping paper on top of the picture, and centered it so I would have a distinct center damask line.  I pushed the wrapping paper down slightly on the edges of the picture, so that it would form a crease in the paper where I needed to cut it.  Following the creases, I cut out my piece of wrapping paper.

Then I took my materials outside to use the spray adhesive.  I covered the picture well with the spray, making sure to spray the edges and corners a little extra.

I borrowed the hubby for the next step, we each held two corners of the wrapping paper (since it tends to try to roll up) and placed it carefully down onto the picture, lining up the edges. The adhesive gives slightly before it dries, so you can slide the paper just a little if it's slightly out of place.

While pushing down on the paper, I slid my hand across it to remove any creases.

Color time!
The frame of the picture extends out past the actual picture part, so I decided to give that some color.

Since Apple Barrel's Cloudless Blue seems to be my color this Spring, I used that!
And when this happened:
I cleaned up the edges with a baby wipe.

While that was drying, I worked on painting my wooden letter "G".  Once all the paint dried, I used the spray adhesive on the back of the G, and added it to the corner of my picture.

Then I used the command strips to hang it on the wall!

Very in-expensive, since I already had the picture!

A pretty pattern with a pop of color, perfect for the living room wall.

Hope you're having a great week so far!

Spring Decor Jars Cont'd...

This series is on how to re-use your empty food jars by turning them into Spring decor!
A continuation from THIS post, I'm revealing the "other" jar in the picture!

The previous post (link above) was about the Ragu jar, and this post is about the salsa jar (white jar above)! Pace salsa to be exact, if you weren't already able to figure it out from the jar shape! Pace definitely has a trademark jar shape!

Here's a before and after pic...

And here it is on the mantle!

After washing/soaking the jar and letting it completely dry, I took the label off (not always easy!) and poured some paint into the jar.  I rolled the jar around so that the paint inside would spread all over the inside of the jar, covering all of the glass.  Once the inside was covered in paint, I set it upside down to let any remaining paint drip out.  I wiped off the top edge to clean it up some.  Once the paint is completely dry, I sprayed some finishing spray into the jar, and wrapped some twine around the top! I sealed the twine with hot glue, then added some spring flowers (a Michael's find!).  Then it was ready for display!

For tips on what kind of paint and finishing spray to use, see this post HERE.

Can you tell we eat a lot of Italian? Pasta is my favorite, by far.

But this project is a great way to upcycle jars that would normally be tossed.  And they're super-inexpensive because you already have the jar! I love re-using my food jars.  They make the perfect Spring decor.
